Found family from a bunch of outcasts has got to be one of my favourite tropes in fiction. The heartfelt sincerity with which the kids come to regard each other is so touching to witness evolve. 

I cried for Rion. It was so heartbreaking for him to lose the chance to wish for his sister to come back home.

My only criticism would be that as much as I loved getting to know each character's backstory, the lead up to each discovery became quite formulaic.

Kokoro runs, touches X, views memory, vows to save friend, rinse, repeat. Sort of like a video game, which, meta!

Apart from that small section, I did enjoy the writing style and pace. 

But I must admit I was quite shocked at how the parents didn't just force the kids to go to school to be honest. Personally, the idea that a child could just not go to school for a year was more fantastical

than being eaten by a wolf in a castle accessible by mirror.

Great story though, really enjoyed how all the puzzle pieces came to fit.

There is a character who the author describes as fat and obsessed with food a few times, without there seeming to be any good reason for doing so. The main character has some mental health issues. I (going through some mental health issues currently) personally didn't find it triggering and thought it was more of a nice escapism (albeit not interesting enough for me to finish reading) rather than dwelling too much on the depressed moods.

I was thinking that it would make a beautiful animated movie and it turns out there is an animated movie coming in summer 2023. Rooting for these kids

Think the book's greatest strength is it's depiction of anxiety, may seem over the top at times but even then I've seen myself think those same things. Don't expect too much fast paced plot based action for the first half of the book, It's very much just a vibe as characters warm up to each other and honestly was such a great place to explore. Things pick up a ton in the second half and all the puzzle pieces coming together is done so well. I think it's a hallmark of a great story when as soon as the story ends I just want to so desperately see some kind of sequel to see those characters again one last time.
