Listening to the narration by Ray Porter is incredible. They add so much to the text with this amazing acting ability. I don't think I would have teared up at the ending or been so invested if I was reading this book on the page!

I loved this book. Five stars for Rocky the alien.

Project Hail Mary is a fast-paced science fiction novel about a man who wakes up from a coma and discovers that he's alone on a spaceship. His crewmates are dead. He has no idea why he's on the ship or what he's expected to do. As he frantically searches for answers, he slowly remembers that Earth's sun is infested with alien algae, and he's been sent to a distant star in the hopes of finding something that kills space algae. Fortunately (and unfortunately), he learns a lot more than he expected on his journey.

Read this book if you like plot twists because there are a lot of them. It's actually an impossible book to review because there are so many twists. Everything I want to say is a spoiler. The characters handle each twist with humor and optimism. It's kind of inspirational. These people are very, very determined to live. Every time they start to feel hopeless, they refocus and try a different way of solving their problems. Nothing is easy in space!

My only complaint is that the author isn't great at coming up with unique characters. The characters in this book are pretty much identical to the characters in his previous books. That's a small complaint, though. Don't let it stop you from reading this one. It's really good!

Phenomenal book. I loved The Martian, found Artemis to be a flop, so I was a little hesitant about this one and wondering if the first book was just lightning in a bottle. But the entire thing was fantastic and I ended up binge-reading most of it. Rocky and Ryland's friendship was precious, and a pleasant contrast to all of the nuts and bolts science that carried the mechanics of the story.

As with everything Weir writes, I loved this! This might even beat the Martian for me which is one of my all time favorites. I am so glad I went in blind knowing very little about the story. everything was a surprise and it’s one of those books I wish I could read for the first time again. I didn’t go in expecting to get so emotional either. There were parts where my heart was racing, there were parts where I was choked up. And that’s saying a lot, usually books don’t this much of a reaction from me unless I’m really attached to the characters, and it’s a really compelling story. And I’m a science nerd so all the explanations fed the little nerd part of my brain nicely. Excited for what he writes next!

I laughed out loud multiple times during this book. Like The Martian, the science is great, the characters likable, and the flow strong. Fast paced, engaging, simply delightful. There are lots of lines I wanted to read out loud to my husband (or quote to you here) but they are so much better enjoyed in the context so I restrained myself.
