3.5, rounding down.
I’m glad I read this, but didn’t fall in love with it as much as I expected. Perhaps I’m a bit burnt from my recent slew of classics and translated lit? Even so, this is truly a beautiful piece of work, and I’d like to reread again some time.

It feels serendipitous that by the time I decided to tackle reading Mrs Dalloway I find I’m the same age as Clarissa.

I had to start this twice because first go round I didn't realize it was a pretty stream of consciousness (several consciousnesses) narrative of a day. My non fiction brain is so used to tidy, thematic and consise chapters. However, once reframed and restarted, I allowed myself to be carried along by Woolf's amazing command of descriptive language. Gorgeous.

Finally finished reading Mrs Dalloway and only 14 years after I was first assigned to read it in Year 11 Extension English with Mrs Buggy. At the time I just couldn't get into Woolf's prose, so this time I listened to the audiobook read out by Anjli Mohindra which was beautiful and help me get into the rhythm of the book. I love how Woolf is able to pinpoint such particular qualities of age and experience and reflection with such verisimilitude. Also, I feel like I would have read this book sooner if Mrs Buggy had told me that there were lesbians in it.

I read this for my literature class. This was a hard read, it took a lot of my brain power to get through, but it was worth it. It was a very well built, intricate story, with incredible themes and attention to detail. The only thing that detracted from my enjoyment was the difficulty and confusion I often felt while reading it. It also, surprisingly, made me emotional at times, especially near the end
