I love Pern and the world Anne McCaffrey created. Alas, her son is not doing justice to her legacy. This book was barely tolerable and it pains me to say that. There was so much death and sex in this book - not at all what I've come to expect from the series. It was pages of either dragons/dragonriders dying or descriptions of everyone - gay, straight, young, old - having sex. Just go back to telling the stories please. I couldn't wait to be done with it. And the next book in the series is apparently a retelling of the same events from a different point of view. Side note: when I went to rate this book on Goodreads, I had trouble figuring out which book it was as the descriptions of several sounded nearly identical. I had to go get the book back out to be sure which one I read.
