Some loose ends have been tied up, but many others still dangle. An interesting exploration of love, which is sure to offend some.

I loved this one, continuing characters and lots of completion of points from previous books that I wanted. Ending was a bit of a cliff hanger.

Anne McCaffrey is the quintessential writer of fantasy books pertaining to dragons. These books are always wonderful, well written, and perfectly characterized. All of her series are great but the ones that take place on Pern are the best of all. A thoroughly fun and engaging read.

A decent book, Todd is stepping into the shoes left by his mother quite well. Not the best fiction I've read, but far from the worst. I'm enjoying the storyline, and he's actually keeping me guessing about what the solution is going to be. The twist at the end of the book caught me completely by surprise, which is very unusual.

I’ve been away from Pern for a very long time, but the world still feels like an old friend, and it’s good to be back. I was delighted to note that a polyamorous relationship is at the heart of this book, and that gender roles seem a bit less strictly defined than in Lessa’s day. Fiona is wonderful, Lorana is incredible and heroic, and I have the next book already.

I love Pern and the world Anne McCaffrey created. Alas, her son is not doing justice to her legacy. This book was barely tolerable and it pains me to say that. There was so much death and sex in this book - not at all what I've come to expect from the series. It was pages of either dragons/dragonriders dying or descriptions of everyone - gay, straight, young, old - having sex. Just go back to telling the stories please. I couldn't wait to be done with it. And the next book in the series is apparently a retelling of the same events from a different point of view. Side note: when I went to rate this book on Goodreads, I had trouble figuring out which book it was as the descriptions of several sounded nearly identical. I had to go get the book back out to be sure which one I read.

It was fun to read a book about Pern. I read this out of order. this is not one of my favorite dragonrider books. I don't think Todd McCaffrey understands how women think.
I honestly couldn't wait for the book to end. I just dragged on about the impending doom of Pern and about how everyone should love each other and never be jealous. There was too much sex and the liberties with the sex were too much for me.
I usually love books about Pern... but not this one.

I'm always happy to read new books about Pern, and I am enjoying this book, but I don't think Todd has the same literary abilities that his mother had. The characters are a little blocky, the descriptions not as evocative, the writing sometimes stilted, and there's too much tension. I'm not sure the book is served well by the spiraling doom. There's also too much time-traveling. The whole plot, although based on threadfall, seems to revolve around "timing it." With a little more creativity, I think the characters could find other ways to save civilization on Pern.

All that said, I'm still enjoying the story, and look forward to the resolution and conclusion.

Now that I've finished, the end was, while not unexpected, not bad.
