I honestly think this books just wasn’t for me. I can see some people enjoying it, but it wasn’t me, since I’m uninterested in romantic drama, and this book was almost all about that.
At least the twist was kind of unexpected for me.
The MC was unlikeable for me. I didn’t hate anyone, I just couldn’t care.
And the narrator in the audiobook version sounded like an AI voice, except for the guy characters, I loved those.

This was a solid 4 stars! The secrets and betrayals were so fun to read. I don’t condone anything that the characters did, but that’s why it was such an interesting read. I hope that makes sense.
A lot of things I’m seeing is that people gave this book a low rating on the basis of hating the main character and the actions of her and her friends. For me, that’s why I enjoyed it. It was so out of pocket and random that I ate it up.

Talk about your morally gray and morally ambiguous characters. They all really just sucked, and yet I loved them all.
Jessica has the most main-character energy of any main character I’ve ever seen. I think the worst part is that she is such a relatable character, and her thoughts and desires are things that most people have probably felt to some extent in their lives, but she just acts on those desires and essentially is a really terrible person.
I felt that the very final last plot twist at the end wasn’t entirely surprising considering it’s a very on-brand thing for that character to do, so it felt like it wasn’t so much a plot twist, but one final nail in the coffin to solidify how much of a terrible person that character is.
I also guessed who did it about 55% of the way through the book. It was essentially process of elimination, but the whole book itself was so good that I didn’t mind. Even though I guessed who it was, the big question was how the character got to that point and what happens that leads to everything going down. And that was insanely entertaining.

“It turns out the real you is a quilt, made up of the light and the dark. The life you’ve lived in sunshine and your shadow life, stretching underneath the surface of your mind like a deep underwater world, exerting invisible power. You are a living, breathing story made up of the moments in time you cherish, all strung together, and those you hide. The moments that seem lost. Until the day they’re not.”
i am disappointed that i didn’t love this book, as i’m an avid fan of the secret history and if we were villains. i love a good close knit friend group, murder, dark academia and stories told in different timelines but this just kind of missed. main thing is i truly didn’t believe that these people were friends, and the relationships that we see at the college reunion make no sense but just add a kind of shock value and mystery. jessica is by far the only fleshed out character and her motivations were intriguing and believable. the rest of the group seemed kind of one note, especially courtney why was she here she is written in a cartoonish mean girl way and everytime during the reunion her and jessica have a conversation it’s so bizarre and contrived. the female friendships in this book do not feel realistic and just rely on jealousy. while the boys all kind of felt the same to me and were all “effortlessly cool”. the reveal was … something it was kind of stupid and i truly don’t believe they would of kept it a secret with how unhinged it was. anyways i didn’t love or hate this book but i was expecting more. also why did everyone in this group have a stupid nickname, having a nickname does not make me believe these people were close.

Wow. I finished this book hours ago and I’m still mind blown! This was my first book by Ashley Winstead and I have since bought another book. I could not figure out whodunnit the entire time, and I was still wrong at the end. The book takes place between the present and 10 years prior. Jess and her college friends all meet up for the 10 year anniversary of their roommate’s murder/homecoming at their alma mater. Heather’s case is still unsolved, but her brother is determined to solve it and out one of them. Secrets are unraveled, the truth comes out, and the ending is all fire and fury. I loved it and can’t wait to read more!
THIS WAS SO GOOD! I loved how the main character was so flawed but so relatable in some ways, and I love seeing how her perception of who is "good" and "bad" remained so rigid over the course of her life. I also loved the nostalgic college aspect :')
kept me on my toes the whole time and did not end in a way i ever would have expected. one of my favorite thrillers
