The love triangle feels more like a nuisance than an engaging part of the story. I’ve already chosen which character I like the most, so having the story “play” with my hope is frustrating. I don’t like this game and I’ve been given a glimpse of hope, and I’m waiting for it to be taken away in the next book.
On top of that, I’m irritated that the plot doesn’t get more focus. The love triangle feels unnecessary, serving mostly as drama and distraction. On the bright side, I’m both proud and a little disappointed that I guessed part of the plot—I correctly figured out the killer.
Overall, it’s a fast and easy read. I flew through a huge chunk at the beginning, but as the story progressed, it started to wear me down, and I slowed down a bit.

These books are just fun, quick reads. Barnes writing is still not my most favorite thing, there are places that felt overwritten and explained, but I really like the characters and the mystery is interesting. I treat these as just fun reads.
