Nero is a character met in book one of the series, Misfits, and is just as surly and uncommunicative as I imagined, though I didn't imagine it would last for so long of the book. He has every right after finding out what he has experienced but I thought that Lenny would be able to ease and charm his way through Nero's defenses a bit quicker, but then both men are extremely stubborn.
Lenny end up with Nero after a stalker he has had for a while escalates his actions and with very little help from the police due to no evidence, he goes into hiding with the help of Tom, Cass and Jake. Things are tense to start with but even with very little talk between them, they come to understand each other. Nero's need to protect and look after Lenny and then Lenny's charm and ability to just get on with things has him bringing light to Nero's darkness.
I did enjoy this story but got a little frustrated with how quickly both men back off or when Nero doesn't discuss something, just saying "if you say so" and then continuing with the silent treatment. The couple have an interesting dynamic and I think continuously surprise each other through the story. They have a good chemistry in the bedroom and Lenny lack of kitchen experience is saved by his artistic licence when it comes to serving meals.
Overall another good story from Garrett Leigh with some harder plot points but a good relationship to balance it out. It's also good to get to see Tom, Cass and Jake as well. I hope we have more from this series with just how big the Urban Souls operation is.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

I loved this book so much. Both Lenny and Nero were so different, but they made each other the best versions of themselves. Seeing Lenny's light shine even when he was put in such a horrible situation, and seeing Nero allow himself to finally bask in that light was a breath of relief. Nero's past was truly, truly awful, and the fact that he was able to finally process some of that trauma because of Lenny made the story a lot deeper. These two men deserved their happily ever after and it was absolutely given to them in just the right way.
