Finding yourself, finding home, finding love. This book finds them all.

Morgan Ross is an amazing event planner, until a pretty major hiccup throws her life into disarray. Heading home may not be the best option, but it's the only one presented to her. Heading home also isn't simple. Her relationship with her dad is stilted and then there's Rachel Reed. Her ex-best friend and more.

I'll be honest and say that I wasn't hooked throughout. The start seemed a bit wordy, but it didn't take long for me to enjoy the characters reconnecting and describing small town life. I was impatient to find out what happened between Morgan and Rachel but I wasn't surprised. The characters were more mature than me as I'm sure I would have held a grudge for longer over nothing much.

Morgan's character seemed slightly damaged and we discover more about Rachel's character as well and everything isn't rosey.

What I liked was the hometown resurrection and enjoyment of the small things. It was something of a homage to sometimes the answer is right in front of you.

I think you'll like this if you like gentle, with a bit of sappy (in a good way).

For starters, I don’t usually read anything other than nonfiction/memoirs. romance novels are way out my comfort zone and general interest. But, i have been trying to branch out into more novels and I love anything sapphic. So, when I saw a sapphic romance hallmark style Christmas book? I had to try it.

That being said. It was an easy read, very easy. The writing style flows and I felt myself rooting for the main characters as well as invested in Ben’s character & relationships as well. I have to say though, I hated app the sex. For me, that ruined the entire book. I don’t ever care to read multiple page sex scenes. I just flipped right past them. Didn’t even read them. Hated all the excess sexual-ness, the “horniness” made me sick at times. I’m not a fan of smut or sex in books. I could have done away with every single explicit sexual act in this book. I’m a lesbian and that just wasn’t necessary to me.

It’s very obvious the author has an obsession with coffee. But as someone who doesn’t ever drink any coffee, that was a tad excessive. I didn’t even need to read the author description to understand how OBSESSIVE over coffee she is.

Also, the ending?? Cmon. SPOILERS::

I can understand the proposal, I welcomed it and loved that happened; BUT WHY WAS IT ALSO A WEDDING? Ugh. That annoyed me. It could have just been a proposal and would have been the perfect ending. Making the proposal a surprise wedding was completely unnecessary and unrealistic, in my opinion.
I read in a different review that they wished they heard more of Rachel Reed voice/ feelings/thoughts/etc instead of Morgan’s assumptions, and I completely agree. I wish I could have heard more of her side, as I related more with Rachel than I did with Morgan (at least personally).

That, plus the excess sex, is what made me take away 1 star.

I wanted to like this. It just felt like such a paint-by-numbers romance. We LOVE romance tropes. Love love love, but the characters still have to feel alive, nuanced and whole and that just wasn't the case here.

This was a Hallmark-ish Christmas story about first loves coming back around and I enjoyed it. It was like 85% wholesome and 15% spice so it was a fun combo. I was mad at Morgan for Sweet Home Alabama-ing these people twice in her life by acting like their lives are small because they still live and work in their hometown. These people are business owners and have solid relationships with their friends and community so they're doing alright.

I cannot wait for Ben and Adam's book. I need that story desperately.

Thank you to Courtney Kae and the Holigays22 group for a copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.

DNF after the first chapter. I don't think this author's writing style is for me.

Overall, this book was a 3.75/5 star read for me. It was good, but it just wasn't amazing. I don't regret reading it, but it's not one that I would recommend often. Good for a quick palate cleanser, but not the best for a good, intriguing romance. I would be willing to read another book by her.
