quite an average read for me ngl - took me forever to finally finish aswell
this had a major plot twist which was intriguing but everything else was quite bland, not much world building or plot and the characters were dry asf
half the time i had no idea what was going on but during the scenes between mare and cal it got me gushingg

I didn’t love this the second time as much as I remember enjoying it the first time. I’m wondering if maybe listening on audio impacted my feelings towards it? Mare was just kind of whiny and annoying and I think knowing the twist at the end was coming set me up to not enjoy it as much. TBD if I will continue the series on audio or if I’ll attempt to read the physical books again, but if I do that it’ll have to wait a bit.

I LOVED it! I finished the book in one sitting, I genuinely felt hurt and betrayed after reading this. My friend practically forced me to read it, and I'm glad she did! Great read, I look forward to reading the rest of Aveyard's books.

Edit: Just re-read my review, and it made me laugh. Why did I decide to write that? For the most part I lied. I did not like it, I did finish it in one sitting (I was desperate to have it over with), I did not feel betrayed after reading this (perhaps a little hurt, though only because it was so predictable), my friend did force this down my throat, and I never picked up another one of Aveyards’s books.
Sorry, that may have been a little harsh. I’m very tired because I had to speak to people today (I know, actual people). I am sure that this book is wonderful, it just wasn’t for me.

Anyone can betray anyone.

Hunger Games-Divergent-Harry Potter mixed into one story.

Derivative and predictable mash up of hunger games and game of thrones. Not my cup of tea.
