I really like this book, even though there are some, not so positive reviews. Also, I understand the lackluster ones. It wasn't quite on par with the other 2 in the series so far.

That being said, book 4 is on my bookcase and I will be reading it at some point. I love that we got a glimpse into both Jakob and his wifes back story. I love the way he writes the interaction between characters. All in all a great series with a very lovable and relatable cast of characters.

Least fav of the Hangman's Daughter series

Although I did like this book, for some reason, it didn't hold my attention as well as the other 2 I've read by the same author. In this tale, the hangman is the one who needs rescued instead of him trying to help someone else out of a jam. His daughter, Magdalena, and her boyfriend, Simon, return to add to the adventure and help save her father. The story has the same great characters as well as some new ones, but I wasn't sitting on the edge of my seat as with the others. I have been extremely busy so it may be my lack of focus with everything else on my mind so I will read future titles from Potzsch and I recommend his books as one's to read.

This medieval mystery is a real page-turner filled with plot twists & plenty of action. The descriptions of the ancient town of Regensburg left me with a wish to visit the ancient town. The author even includes a suggested travel guide to the town at the end of the novel that ties locations in the book to actual sites around town. The third in the Hangman's Daughter series, I will be adding #4 to my WTR list. Warning: the torture scenes are graphic.

Just ok.

This series as a whole is a lot darker than what I thought I would enjoy. But, here I am- done with the third book and looking forward to more. I am a bit confused about the naming convention of the books so far. Are they just a nod to an interesting character? Because the book isn't really about the beggar king. Maybe I'll figure out some more in the next one

The books are silly crime romps and can be quite long winded. I lost the thread of who was who in the middle but the author always wraps it up quite nicely. I think my favorite of this is that it is rooted in real places and that is why the descriptions of places feel very real. The author seems to always put a walking tour of the places he writes about at the end and it is my favorite!

Enjoyable story just not very well written. I enjoyed the period (1600's) and the idea of a mystery but the overall connection to the "Beggar King" is really a secondary character. Again, an interesting character in the book. Otherwise, a good read for the airplane.

LOVED IT!!!! 4.5 stars*****
This one was probably my favorite so far! The emotional pull of this novel was unstoppable. I physically cheered at times and most definitely swore out loud more than once.
Here's the thing... I LOVE my favorite fictional characters...so when you fuck with them...you are fucking with me...

Jakob Kuisl is falsely accused of a murdering his sister (whom he adored), and arrested and tortured.
Now Magdelena (his daughter, the infamous hangman's daughter) ,and her love Simon fled to the same town because someone was turning the town against Magdalena...(this part of the story was infuriating because it highlighted the plight of women and piece of shit men...who can get away with anything). I digress...
So Magdelena and Simon are trying to prove Jakob's innocence...

BUT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE!!!!! Oh my goodness...there is war, deceit, revenge, LOVE, and I mean such beautiful...makes my heart full kind of love...the love of people so broken and scarred that becomes so true and precious...ok...this went sappy really fast...unintentional...

Also I want to point out a thing about revenge...revenge is only allowed, when you are the innocent party and someone is framing you...or screws you over in some way for their advantage...REVENGE is NOT when you are in the wrong and the person doing the right thing stops you from being an asshole. ASSHOLES don't get to claim revenge!!! How dare you!!!! Trust me this makes sense...

I love this series... I don't even know what made me start it, but I am so happy I did. I can't recommend it enough. Jakob Kuisl...you're kind of my hero...also fictional...so there's that...
