An incredibly funny, yet tragic, play; particularly for people who have read Shakespeare's Hamlet, who essentially lifted Kyd's plot and put his Shakespearean twist on it. Bel-imperia is a badass: Kyd provides her with an agency uncommon of Renaissance period drama. Hieronimo is also a particularly interesting choice for the main protagonist: here, Kyd changes the revenge drama genre to have a father avenge his son, and his depictions of grief are well-crafted.
