The story held my attention through most of it, but by the end I was hoping that the entire town would burn down with only the sheep surviving.
I really liked Bathsheba most of the time, but I wish she'd have stood up for herself a bit more.

Seriously enjoyed this! I'll admit I used the dictionary function on my Kindle quite a bit, because my 19th century British English vocabulary/knowledge of pop culture references is not what it once was. But I thoroughly enjoyed it! Kept me glued like a horrible soap opera plot, only infinitely more well-written. I'm surprised this isn't a more well-known classic plot! Excited to watch the film adaptations now.
I physically could not finish this book I tried the audiobook the physical book and it’s just not happening- I couldn’t even tell you the name of one character or anything that happened plot wise

If you love rural England you will love this book. At times the chapters focussed too much on descriptions using old English style vocabulary, which made it a bit challenging to read.

1. Easy language, could be your best kick start for classics.
2. Writting is so appreciable, as well as all the romantic lines are written with so much beauty and grace.
3. Characters are very well explained, without even explaining the characteristics, which helps in keeping the flow of the story.
4. At first I didn't like the character of Bathsheba, to me she was just like another confused 20 years old , who takes impulsive decisions, but at the end of the book I understood the this book is not only about love, it's also about like and maturity, which comes after doing mistakes.
5. Hardy rightly points out in this novel that "It appears that ordinary men take wives because possession is not possible without marriage, and that ordinary women accept husbands because marriage is not possible without possession; with totally differing aims the method is the same on both sides. Which is enough to summarise the novel.

Hardy has by far become my favorite author. He creates such a vivid world with characters to match. I loved every minute of this novel, twists and turns included.
