Shocking in a way where I wanted to see this book through but never read it again.
Edit: I still don't love it, but I can't deny that it was both engaging and made me think.

This book tries so hard to be edgy. It constantly mentions songs and movies and characters to try and tell you how cool it is. Start to finish, it’s just a pretty lame knock off of stuff like American Psycho or Fight Club.
The constant mention of wolves and monkeys is just cringey. Borderline embarrassing. The main character is such a dingus.

Oh, and the ending was really stupid and you could see it from a mile away.

CJ Leede does a remarkable job in this gritty, blood soaked slasher set in Los Angeles. Our main character Maeve is full of rage and a dash of something else. It is that something else that keeps you enthralled with the story. It is sometimes disturbing and disgusting and elicits visceral reactions. Leede takes us right to the top of a cliff and does not disappoint in pushing us right off it to really give us a full range of emotions. This book is gore-filled, weird and bitter sweet. If you are a horror fan, I highly recommend. For all others, proceed with caution.

this is the most "not like other girls" garbage i've maybe ever read. i would have dnfed this one but at every turn i found myself wondering how it could possibly keep getting WORSE, so i stuck it out to the end. i do not understand any of the hype or excitement for this book, and i genuinely can't think of a single person i'd recommend it to. woof.
