Listen, it’s fun. It’s got a grumpy protective hero, a Latina heroine (more explicitly a 3rd generation Mexican-American; I can appreciate the specificity!), a close proximity and fake relationship premise, and a cute fuzzy alien pet. It’s light hearted adventure that you can listen to when you just need a f-cking break. A little treat, if you will. That’s what the books in this Clecanian series taste like - a little tidbit of escapist fluff.

My primary gripe is that the narrator struggles with the Spanish language text included in the story. It’s heavily accented by non-fluency and comes across rather harshly.

Reminder that this series is centered around human women being abducted and brought to Clecania, where they are highly sought after as mates for procreation. It’s rife with gender essentialism so take from that what you will.

3- 🌶️

Auzed (Zed) brother of Luka & Theo, is captain of Queens guard. He and others are searching the woods for Alex after Lily is found/finds Verakko. At the Queens ask, he trespasses into another lands forest. He finds her there and ends up killing an endangered creature to protect her. Then they are found by the natives and taken to jail for killing the animal.

Alex lies and says that she agreed to marry him to save him from prison, and her from forced marriage according to the customs of that city-state. They end up staying a week in an air city suspended in the trees. He gets terminated from his job due to the pending "marriage."

After their return to his city,

the Queen really offers him his job back, but also says Alex is going to the Viewing ceremony for potential husbands/wives that day. Zed runs to join, and his mate marks appear when they are reunited. HEA.

What a cute sunshine/grumpy couple. Alex is hilarious with her attitude and references. Watching Auzed transform from a straight laced guy to a happy guy in love was sooo cute.
The continued worldbuilding is great and I can't wait to read the next installment.
