Auzed has officially taken over the reigns as Ash's Favorite Clecanian Male (Ash is me, btw lol).
With all due respect to Ice Planet Barbarians, a hugely successful series about abducted earth women and the aliens who mate them (which you should check out book 1 if for no other reason than to see if you're into the hype too), I cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME understand why this series is not championed with the same ferocity.
Clecania is all advanced tech where IPB is more neolithic (is that caveman times? idk, I'm writing the review and not researching accurate historical markers), so this means we have the ability to incorporate more complex world building and storylines. Case in point: we are on book 4 and while the planet has stayed the same, everything else is delightfully unique.
I found myself most into Lily's character from book 3 as far as FMCs so far, but Auzed has hands-down challenged and won against each one of the previous Clecanian MMCs. The way his relationship with Alejandra started, evolved, plateaued and then EXPLODED (iykyk) was top-tier writing (and oh my-lanta the SPIIIIIIICE). You root for both of them and even though you see both of their perspectives, neither one of their hesitations on why they should/shouldn't be together seems unreasonable to their character or to the common sense of you as a reader.
If you like:
- FMCs who think they know what they want, make concessions for having a good time while there's one to be had and then realize that the good time is actually what she wants for a long time
- MMCs who find their entire way of life turned upside down at the presence of a female and hating it... but secretly loving it, too
- happily ever afters that feel cathartic and well-deserved..
You NEEEEEED to read this one. Obviously you'll want to read the others to know some perspective but truthfully? I think you could read this as a standalone to get the context you need while you read and tell me if Auzed is not automatically at the top of your "aliens I want to abduct me" list.
