This book should be seen as having two parts: first life towards living at a farmhouse and second the hikevin Iceland. Both are interesting but seem atbodds with each other.

Winn is an interesting writer who tells interesting things about the most casual situations. Is this nature writing? Partly. It is writing about human interaction and reflection. And for Winn this automatically incorporates nature.

Not as much hold as The Salt Path . The writing styles & descriptions become samey, with more inner monologue.
She acknowledges that she doesn't know what exactly Moyh has been studying - there seems to be a shift from writing about them for him to having an outlet (& understandabley securing more income)

This one doesn't quite seem to know what it wants to be, with a memoir feel at the start with her mother, moving onto arms length rewilding & climate, to then seemingly hastily adding in another hike. Just enough of each to make a novel length, which I think makes it feel throwaway.

Inspiring nonetheless ✨️

I had forgotten that I had put this on hold at the library even before I read The Salt Path. I liked it much more than her first book.
There’s some lovely parts with great writing, although I’m still bothered by the disjointed non-linear writing style. I understand why she did it, but I don’t like it
