I had high expectations, but what I thought and got didn’t align. The various plot timelines were a bit much to keep track of in the beginning. I felt like the lesbian love aspect was forced in and didn’t add to the story. Vic was the best character and easiest to follow. Book could have just followed from her point of view.

The years going back and forth along with 3 different stories made it a little hard to keep up an stay interested. If not for my Book Club, I would have never finished. Once I was able to keep track of it all, it was really neat to see how the stories developed. Enjoyed from 2/3 on.

I wanted to like this book more than I ended up liking it. I liked learning about the wartime book program but kept getting jumbled in the jumping timelines. Never truly was drawn in to the characters until the last 1/3.
