It's fine, but quite on the nose about its messages (as in, not just un-subtle allegories or such, but the several main characters explicitly thinking or talking about the lessons they'd taken away from various events earlier in the book) and was really dragging for me by the end.

Gosh this one is so good. The writing is so captivating and I honestly had to remind myself it’s not an autobiography. The switching of timelines got me at first since I was listening. But it’s so good and I can honestly understand how people got swept up into H*tlers ideology in that time period. It’s very similar to present day life. I just hope we make it to the other side with way less damage than they did.
the first half is slow, but wow the second half is worth it! a beautiful and powerful love letter to books and the importance of telling stories
