I thought the story was cute and would have rated it higher except it posits itself as body positive, but it’s not. Penny is a size 16 (aka not actually that fat) and has supposedly accepted her body, but is obsessed with being “good” and eating “clean” (hello, food has no moral value, tyvm). There’s also talk about whether things and angles are “flattering” and how she wouldn’t ever wear a tight dress at her size. It’s an attempt to be body positive by someone who doesn’t seem to fully understand the movement. It very much felt like Penny was written as a “good” fat person, one who eats well and exercises, therefore it’s okay that she’s fat. Guess what, whatever someone eats or does with their body does not determine whether they’re worthy as a human being. Ugh, the more I think about it the more frustrated I get. It could have been so much better.

Also, I thought it was weird that the epilogue
was from Caleb’s respective, when none of the rest of the book was
.
