La premisa es interesantísima y plantea varios temas que dan pie a reflexionar y debatir sobre ellos (el consentimiento, la comercialización de la privacidad, si olvidarías parte de tu vida si pudieras, si preferirías morir a saber lo que has decidido olvidar...). Sin embargo, no sentí ninguna emoción con los personajes, sus relaciones me eran tan indiferentes que incluso las muertes me han dado igual. La segunda parte, cuando se explora la relación amorosa, me ha gustado más y la narración iba más fluida. Me ha decepcionado un poco porque yo venía buscando un libro de fantasía gótica y me he encontrado con otra cosa, pero al menos es entretenido. Tristemente la traducción deja bastante que desear.

It's BL. If you love that, rejoice. If not, then I suggest you give it a pass. Even then, there's not that much sex (although there is sex) and it doesn't even hint that it's BL until halfway into the book. While the relationship development and characterization of the main duo is decent, the charactisation of minor characters is nonexistent. What irks me the most is the complete waste of a unique premise. Bookbinding and its history is something I would love to see more of, but preferably in a better-written book that actually places the practise center-stage rather than as a over-developed plot device for drama. Descriptions also read like a fanfic, focusing on all the wrong places. There are definitely better books to read.

I came for the fantasy, the magical books, the apprentice learning to control this amazing power inside himself, the lore, the secrets of the craft, some kind of character growth.
What I got in the end was a romance consisting of a weird brother-sister-love-triangle, people acting like assholes because they were in love with someone, but didn't want to admit that to themselves (twice I had to suffer through this, twice!), dad the psychopath and serial rapist, a stupid kind of happy end that wasn't happy at all and the realization, that in the end the characters actually were assholes, who only cared about themselves and their own happiness.
I wish I had stopped reading when it was obvious that this whole fascinating concept of binding memories into a book was just a vehicle to prolong the will-they-get-each-other-in-the-end-or-not-spiel.
