As with any collection of short stories, these are hit or miss, some being much better than others. It’s nice to see the crew at different points at history, coloring in some of their back story more than the first two volumes. However, all the stories are sad. I wish there had been at least one that was based in joy, where someone didn’t have to die to achieve whatever goal. I guess that’s not what The Old Guard is about though.
The best part was seeing these characters in different art styles as I hate Leandro Fernandez’s style and character designs. While I understand why this story is so fitting for messy, ugly art, I liked seeing it in clearer forms.

Graphic: Blood, Gore, Gun violence, Injury/Injury detail, Murder, and Violence
