Excellent as always

I love this series and look forward to each new book. This was an especially good installment. I loved all of the old friends and the new additions. Thanks for another great read!

This isn't a fair review, because I only got ten pages in and I already didn't care for the main character. If I had to start at the beginning of the series and give it half a chance, it could have been good.

Former police officer turned PI Savannah Reid gets called by a former client to investigate the death of an old Hollywood Starlet. Is it something from her torrid past or troubled present that led to her death?

Maybe it’s because I’m not a true cozy mystery diehard fan but I found part of this book hard to swallow. First, Savannah used her status as a former police officer and husband’s current police officer status to be present during all parts of a murder investigation. He even takes her out to interview suspects instead of someone still on the force. And while her down home southern charm may be endearing in the larger context of the series, I got quickly bored of all the metaphors/similes. I also was not a big fan of her excusing her husband’s abrasive and at times inappropriate behavior.
I don’t normally go into mystery/thriller books looking for realism but if you’re going to go through the trouble of outlining previous and current law enforcement connections, maybe don’t have everyone they know at a crime scene for evidence collection.

The murder plotline and Brody plotlines are excellent. My biggest issue with this book (and, frankly, the whole series) is that McKevett continually refers to Dr. Liu as "an exotic beauty." I let it slide for the earlier ones due to when they were published, but this one was published in 2020. There's honestly no excuse. There's always an icky way she describes some of her characters, but this is the one that stands out the most.

I'm gonna finish the last one though, because I've worked my way through them.

Savannah and the Moonlight Magnolia gang are working on the case of Lucinda Faraday. Of course in solving this one they manage to solve a few others. I love these books.

I had some concerns back when Savannah and Dirk married that the series was ending, that the author may have run out of places to go with these characters. I am so happy that is not the case. I love these books. They are fun, entertaining and just so enjoyable. I highly recommend this series to anyone. Start on the first one though because while these can be read as stand alone books, the back story does add a bit of oompf to them.

I'm always happy to meet again Savannah Reid and the other characters in this series.
This one was a good story but not as good as other, I enjoyed it but I felt it was great in advancing the character development but a bit lacking in the mystery part.
The plot is as enjoyable and entertaining as usual, the cast of characters well thought and there's a lot of character development.
The mystery is solid but it's more of a subplot than the main one.
I think this book can be read as a standalone as it's very enjoyable.
Recommended.
Many thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
