This was like a cross between the worst parts of the third book and the best parts of the seventh book, which made it altogether my 5th favorite of the series. Would read again.

idk I was excited for this one and it didn't fully live up to the hype, I do love Lucy tho and overall it wasn't bad just not in my top few.

I'm free!!! I finished the series and can move on to other books now! Similarly to Hyacinth's story, I didn't really hate nor love this book. I think it accomplished what it set out to do without much flourish or profound writing, much like the other books.

I think Gregory might've been the most bearable male main character of the entire series, but he definitely still suffered from misogynistic ways of thinking. (I simply hate how often the men referred to women as "females" throughout the entire series.) It actually made more sense for Gregory to be pining after a "love match" because he's seen all his siblings have love matches--not to mention he knew his parents had one, too. It could be argued that the other siblings longing for this match made sense, too, since their parents had one, but it just made the most sense with Gregory. Who wouldn't think it's possible if all seven of your siblings and your parents had a love match? Although, I do still think he was a soppy cliché lmao, and I didn't appreciate how he'd often compare Lucy to Hermione and consistently make her seem like the lesser choice. (Also, I can't get over Hermione Watson as a name, feels very Harry Potter adult coded with Hermione being played by Emma Watson.)

Just like Hyacinth's book, I hated the blurbs at the beginning of the chapters. It still felt out of place, unnecessary, and juvenile. Just start the chapter! I don't need a preface to it smh.

I appreciated how there was a gay character in this story. Feels long overdue because there's no way with all these characters that there wouldn't be someone fruity among them lol. It was also interesting in the second epilogue that Lucy almost died during child birth. I found it crazy that none of the women in the story dealt with issues during child birth considering how common it was and how many children they all had. For once, I can recognize Quinn's genius in ending the story in that way--reminiscing on family and its importance--because it was a sweet way to end the series by indirectly allowing the reader to reminisce on the Bridgerton family with which they just spent eight books.

While I think those additions to the story were interesting, the whole black mail bit was a bit too much for me. Granted, it was high drama and page turning, but it still felt wildly out of place for the story, especially compared to the low stakes of all the other books. It felt like Quinn wanted to go out with a bang--literally. Maybe I'm not understanding the weight of treason during that time, but it was all a little far fetched, even by Briderton's standards. Another part that was different from the other books was the minimal sex scenes. I think there might've only been one that was described in depth, which was a departure from the at least two in all the other books (if I'm not mistaken). Yeah, I can admit that I was a little disappointed about that lmao, but it also was kinda nice to not focus solely on that aspect of the main characters' relationship.

I, of course, have to discuss which characters I think I'm most similar to now being done with all the books. Hyacinth and Lucy for sure, I think. Lucy's need for order (and control) I definitely aligned with, and I also posses Hyacinth's lack of social awareness sometimes. When something needs to be said bluntly, lord knows I will be the one to say it, social norms be damned. Although, I prolly think I do that much more than I actually do lmao. (I choose not to identify or align myself with any of the men in the story LOL.)

It is nice that Quinn didn't end the series on a dud, like Eloise's book, but it also wasn't anything crazy or earthshattering for the final installment of an eight book series. I'm glad I got the checkmark for this series, but I also can't say my time wasn't wasted with them. They all felt like they were written in 2014 on Wattpad, so I didn't really glean many insights, perspectives, or new worldviews from the books. It's a beautiful thing to be done, though, and move on to some other (objectively better) books that have been mocking me from my shelves.

I actually really loved the plot of this one. I was very into the adventure of it all.
