Strangely compelling plot but deeply boring awful protagonist

This book is so dated. The story itself was okay, but the racial slurs and shallow female characters really detracted from it.

This was a re-read. Enjoyed it. Suspense and intrigue. Flowed fairly well but some parts slow.

This is a very complicated story with many things going on "behind the scenes" which aren't explained until later. As usual, it isn't until the end of the novel that everything fits into place and makes you reflect back on the actions and scenes previously in the book.

This was different than the other Grisham books I read because it doesn't focus so much on the trial, but more on the preparation, bribing, and accumulation of evidence before the trial. There were some slow parts when characters were being indecisive and bargaining, but most of the time it was high paced and exciting.lirpa's review against another edition
