The musical part of this story wasn't as intense as it is in book 1, but it was still important. Jessa and her sister Louisa who is simple and very sweet(they for obvious reasons of the time period don't define exactly why) are 1/4 Romanie which is not enough to be protected by them unless Jessa marries whoever will have her, so they move in with their uncle(who is of the gentry) but it turns out he's a violent con artist that uses Jessa's performances as cover for his schemes. Enter our hero the dour stick in the mud Morgan.....
The characters were well written and the relationships, especially between the sisters didn’t feel contrived at all.

Very entertaining if sometimes predictable. Jessamyn’s violin playing virtuoso character is fun. I liked the relationship between her and her sister Louisa, a young woman with developmental disabilities. Morgan, Lord Silverton, is a very conflicted character, trying to amend his past behavior after the death of his brother by inserting a poker in a particular place and not being any fun at all, but Jessa’s music stirs him deeply. Throw in his lively Aunt Agatha (Aunt Agatha rocks) and everything works out the way it should. Louisa is really a delightful character. Since my whole point at the moment is escapism (and Louisa loves fairy tales) this was a highly successful book.

This second one wasn't as strong for me as the first in the series. I was pleasantly surprised by the first in the series, and the fanciful and imaginative descriptions of the feelings and smells evoked by the music were new and interesting.
In this book, I kept running up against difficulties with the heroine's behavior-- like going to a noble's home at night alone or never reaching out to her uncle in Italy. And then there was the fanciful descriptions of the music. For some reason, in this book, they didn't come off as natural and believable for me.
Still entertaining, nice romantic read that stands apart from other historical romances of this ilk due to the central focus on music, but not quite as good as the first one.
