3.5 - Interesting premise. Interesting where it will go and looking forward to the next book. I will also be reading Linsey Hall's Infernal which is an interpretation of the Hades myth joint project of C.N. Crawford and Linsey Hall.

It was very easy to fall into this world. Immediately, I was drawn to Lila, the fiesty, snarky heroine who is a thief. She finds herself being sold to Count Saklas. She learns that he intends to make her his wife. He is a fallen angel, and she plans on killing him. The tension between them is unique because I couldn't decide if I liked Saklas, aka Samael. Lila thinks she is doing the right thing by killing him, but she finds that she has been betrayed by those she trusted most. She also learns that she holds some old dark power. By the end, I was rooting for Samael because I felt betrayed by Lila too.

DNF after reading 16 pages then jumping ahead several timea to read bits and see if it may improve. The writing feels off somehow - stiff or contrived, I'm not sure. The characters feel flat in that way where has added things to make them 3D but it doesn't quite hinge together. The MMC feels edgy in a silly way, and reading ahead he seems to blab secrets and then tell her he's blabbing secrets so he has to go? Which seems naive for an immortal angel.

Not my type of thing unfortunately. I get the feeling this is self published.

I did enjoy this book, I liked the characters well enough and I enjoyed the concept of the Fallen Angels and the Raven Kind but I also felt like there was just not enough of so many things.

The world building and world rules were not built up enough, I would really have liked to have seen this developed more so I could get a better feel for the characters.
There was not enough character build up for the main characters and nothing for the side characters who were barely even mentioned. There wasn't enough actual relationship build up, well between anyone actually, but especially between Lila and Samael.

I'm assuming all of these will be built up over the next 2 books but I almost wished the author had just made one longer, more in depth book than splitting between the 3.

I’m gonna start this by saying was this the best book series I’ve ever read? No. Was I highly entertained through the whole thing? Yes. Did I almost dnf the first book because the heroine was on my last nerve? Also yes. Do I think you should read it? Yes. Will this review make any sense? Probably not
