I enjoyed this book, it was a nice easy read, as well as a nice change from the last book I read (which was quite dark). Overall a typical chick lit book (although since it has been a while since I read the first one at the beginning I did keep getting it mixed up with Confessions of a Shopaholic…). The one thing I didn't like was the section with Thailand and the drugs. That seemed a little over the top and out there for me. It just didn't seem to fit the book. Other than that I quite enjoyed it.

Most things about this book were just so annoying. A couple redeeming moments, but really just so so annoying. Feeling only satisfied in that I am getting off my TBR shelf.

The constant obsession with weight and putting her entire worth into wanting to be loved was beyond exhausting.  Adding to that a character who continuously adds to her own misery, this (and the first book) were hard to get through.

Re-read to remind myself of the story before book 3 comes out.

It was disappointing in some ways. It can't possibly measure up to the original which very cleverly adapted Pride and Prejudice for 1990s London. There's an almost obligatory appearance by Daniel Cleaver which seems a little 'why is he there?' than necessary to the story.

Bridget's second diary begins where the first left off - she's now no longer a Singleton, and dating Mark Darcy. But this is Bridget, so of course romantic entanglements and misunderstandings occur (and Mark Darcy's stiff upper British lip helps this out further), and the course of true love is very bumpy indeed.

The subplot with Bridget's parents feels rather tacked on, as with Daniel, they are fun and eccentric characters who could have been fleshed out more. The scenes with Jude and Shazza were good insights into female friendship and solidarity, but again could have had more of a role.

Bridget is such a ditz, so dependent on self-help books and alcohol/cigarettes that at times it's only her good heart and nature that keeps her likeable. You CAN see what Mark sees in her.

She's no Elizabeth Bennett but she is a character you could imagine seeing in the office, and you do want her to have a happy ending.

We'll see how Helen Fielding treats Ms Jones in the new book...

Bridget really annoyed me in this book but dang, I was compelled by something to keep reading. 🤣
Very clearly a book of its time.
