Un libro que encontré por casualidad y me ha encantado. La fusión entre aventura, misterio, leyendas, y la lucha entre el deseo y los valores religiosos me ha encantado. Y sus pequeños toques de humor me han gustado también. Positivamente sorprendido con este libro!

Nett, aber es wäre viel mehr drin gewesen.
Letztlich eine Abenteuergeschichte für Fans von Indiana Jones und Co. Für meinen Geschmack trotzdem etwas zu seicht, selbst dafür. Außerdem fand ich die Charaktere teilweise extrem nervig, sie verhalten sich manchmal wie Teenager und nicht wie Erwachsene um die 40. Dabei sind sie grundsätzlich nicht uninteressant angelegt. Am Ende bleiben ein paar Sachen unaufgelöst. Ich hätte zum Beispiel schon gern gewusst, wer die Frau in der Wohnung von Kaspar war und warum er ein anderes Symbol trägt als seine Begleiter. Usw. Andererseits sollte man sowieso nicht zuviel über das Buch nachdenken, denn dann fallen einem doch zahlreiche Ungereimtheiten auf. Aber Wächter des Kreuzes ist ja auch kein historischer Roman. Positiv zu erwähnen: Schön geschrieben (in der deutschen Übersetzung) und gut zu lesen, trotz teils sehr langer Kapitel (über 100 Seiten).

Adictivo y bien documentado a nivel histórico (obviamente hay cosas inventadas, pero las que no son correctas). Me gustan mucho este tipo de libros y se nota porque lo he devorado en tres días.
Al principio no me caían bien ni Ottavia ni la Roca, y después han acabado encantándome todos. Aunque, a veces, su comportamiento parecía un poco infantil y sus personalidades son simples.
Por otra parte, las últimas me han parecido que se resolvían con mucha facilidad. Me ha faltado un poco de acción o tensión.
Una lectura muy recomendada.

I decided to reread one of my favorite books from high school and learned that this is not my genre anymore. The writing is wonderful, and the storytelling was fascinating, but there was a lot of context (ancient history, Catholicism, European culture) which I didn’t have offhand. The chapters were also quite long, while I typically prefer shorter chapters. Overall, it was an enjoyable read but took me a long time to get through.

En principio es un libro muy recomendable: engancha, muy bien documentado, muy bien narrado, con una trama muy interesante... pero luego llegas al final y te preguntas qué se estaba tomando Matilde Asensi cuando lo escribió. Aun así, lo recomiendo a cualquiera que le guste la novela histórica.

El libre tiene marcados intervalos en los que me ha atrapado más y en los que simplemente quería seguir leyendo por avanzar la historia más. El inicio es potente, el proceso por el que llegas a conocer la historia de los Staurofílakes, y de su lider Catón, engancha mucho. La unión con la Divina Comedia de Dante, prometía más en un comienzo de lo que finalmente dio; pero aun pareciendo fáciles las pruebas es de reconocer que el trabajo de la escritora para idearlas tuvo que ser un gran calvario. Las partes en las que parecía que la historia no iba conmigo son las amorosas, cortas eso sí, pero para mi muy innecesarias.
Pero no deja de ser una buena lectura, que engancha y que se devora rápidamente.

Audiollibre. He fet una relectura d’aquest llibre després de 10 anys o així. He d’admetre que no recordava res, així que l’he pogut tornar a gaudir com si fos per primer cop. Matilde Asensi fa una barreja de misteri, història, religió i acció, que funciona perfectament per mi. Immediament he començat amb la continuació (que tampoc recordo).

This is one of my all-time favorite books. The narrative, the description, the historical references...all of these come together to make this an exciting read. I am about to buy the El Ultima Caton. I was waiting for the English translation, but would be willing to read this in Spanish (3 yrs of HS Spanish; 3 semesters of UG Spanish). It would be worth my time even if I had to muddle through due to my terrible memory!
