I was pretty excited about this book. I've been a massive fan of the Archie comics and Riverdale and I wanted insight into the events that happened before the show aired. So, of course I pre-ordered this when a friend tipped me off to it being published.

I'm not going to lie, I was majorly disappointed with it. The only parts I really liked were Betty's (we literally had no clue what she was up to in LA). Although I hated where Micol Ostow left off in her POV. And also, there was no clue or reason to who and why she was being framed for stealing "top-shelf" clothes . ALSO, WHY did she not tell Kevin about Brad when she got back from LA?

The other part I liked was Jughead's, even though they were a little sad. It was true to his voice and I liked the hint that MAYBE, Gladys didn't want to leave him behind. Although, there was still no explanation to why she left him behind.

It was also amusing to me to see Dilton's character development and that maybe, he was always just slightly a little unhinged.

But of course, there were things I did not like and unfortunately, they did not outweigh the good parts of this book. Micol Ostow is just a mediocre writer at best. Her prose did not blow me out of the water, so to speak.

She got Archie's voice perfectly, but it reminded me of all the reasons I don't LOVE him. So, his parts were completely unenjoyable for me.

Then there was Veronica, who was THE WORST part of this whole reading experience and another reminder about why she drives me crazy on the show. I found myself rolling my eyes the whole entire time and wondering, how somebody can be so completely out of touch. Also, compared to a all the celebrities name dropped, Veronica Lodge is small potatoes. My favorite part of her POV was when she got knocked down a few pegs, even if I did not love the way her friends handled the situation. But I wasn't too worried because she was equally as nasty, if not worse in the situation.

Do I recommend this? Begrudingly, yes. Will I read the other books in the series? Probably. I just wish somebody different had written this, we'd been given more insight into Polly and Jason, and that there wasn't a lot of time spent on details we already knew.

3.5 stars - This was honestly so much better than I expected it to be; if you're a fan of the Riverdale TV series, you'll probably enjoy this!

While we get to read from all of our favorite character's POV's, my favorite ended up being Veronica's. Her portion of this book read like a much better written Gossip Girl book and really gave so much insight to her life back in NYC.

It was a bit weird that every story from the Riverdale Vol. 3 graphic novel was incorporated into this story somehow. To a fan who's read most of the recent publications within this universe, including these stories felt repetitive and unnecessary.

I am not even going to give this book a rating. I couldn't get into it. I tried, especially being a fan of Riverdale, but something about it didn't spark my interest. Started it almost a month ago and only read about 40 pages into it before I have decided to call it quits. Not for me.

Was watching riverdale again and coincidentally stumbled upon it. Not bad. Not bad for a time pass but still a lot of things were undiscussed. I want a full book too following the storyline of the tv series.

I have loved Archie comics and the Riverdale show so I thought I would love this book. The book is good overall, but I think since the show has been on for so long, readers will only think of what happened in the first season of the show versus what is actually happening in the book. I also ended up listening to this as an audio book and I was hoping that the audio would be done by the cast of Riverdale. It was disappointing that it wasn't the cast, but eventually I got over it. The prequel was very similar to the show so I felt that I didn't actually need to read it.
