Much like how John Green's The Fault in Our Stars hit me hard because I read it with my mom while she was battling brain cancer, this one is a doozy. But at the same time, it's just such a good book. It almost made me cry twice, and finally succeeded at the end, even knowing what was coming.

The premise of They Both Die at the End is simple, and exactly what it says on the tin. People find out that they're going to die the day of, around midnight through the service of a scifi-flavored company by the name of Death-Cast. There is no last-minute, last-ditch miracle. But the focus is entirely on their journey, on how much living they can pack into their last day. And they do that in spades, even finding love despite their loneliness and insecurities. The ending is still a gut punch, and this book is worth reading. I fully recommend it.

They Both Die at the End is a masterclass in world building and detail work, and the format really, really works. definitely not a lighthearted book by any means (shocking, i know, for a book with this title), but there’s a lot of joy and life packed into these pages.

I liked this book but after a while it seemed to just drag itself along and I wasn't really invested in the characters as much as I'd wished I was.

This is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. I experienced every emotion while reading it. I was hesitant to read it given the title, but I can’t recommend this one enough.

The ending had me in pieces. Why wasn’t Mateo there to hold him BACK!

2 hours 36 minutes - I didn’t love this book the way I hoped to. To be quite honest, I never really connected with either Mateo or Rufus and I’m not entirely sure why. Maybe their characters weren’t fleshed out enough, I don’t know. I did begin to enjoy the story more and more as I read it though, and I found the ending quite sad, and the last line quite poignant. However, I felt a lot of it felt flat, the emotional, meaningful things that the characters did didn’t feel all that emotional to me as the reader. I feel this book would have been better if it wasn’t so fast paced. I would have loved to have gotten to know the characters more than I did.
