This book definitely has a case of “over-hyped syndrome” which is too bad. It feels like a boring episode of Black Mirror. I definitely liked it, so I rated it based on what I would have if it hadn’t been so hyped up. I didn’t cry like I expected to, and I’m also kinda mad that
we didn’t get to see how Rufus dies. I’m assuming he gets hit by a car but if you’re going to title a book They Both Die at the End, they should BOTH be dead by the last sentence in my opinion, lol.
Lydia held this story together, Amy made me want to smash my head into a wall. Also, Rufus reminds me of Julian from Cemetery Boys (and yes I know this came out first but I read Cemetery Boys first and it’s better imo). That’s all of my opinions, everything else was pretty blah tbh.

They weren’t lying when they said this book would absolutely ruin me but it was extremely good.

It's not rare for a book to make me cry but very few have made me so emotional that I had to put it down several times to calm down before continuing as this one did.
From the title you could assume this is a story about, and on its surface it is. But it's so much more than that.
This is a story about two boys learning that they are going to die and they have 24 hours to live their lives right. We have 368 pages to live their lives with them and honestly it felt like such an amazing life.
This is, on the surface, a story about death but at its core it's so much more. This is a story about friendship, about family, about courage, and happiness, about grief, about loss, about love. At its core this is a story about life. A story about living.
I couldn't recommend it enough.

I’m not sure if I can add anything new to the conversation about this book. I highly recommend it (like most I know who have read it). It confidently defies YA tropes favoring a messier darker but ultimately more honest story. It doesn’t shy away from the difficult themes suggested in its title and doesn’t slap a happy ending band aid on the wounds of its characters. This is both heartbreaking and effective.

Holy shit this book was an emotional rollercoaster. I loved it, but will probably never read it again because it thoroughly broke me. I loved how all these random people were woven through Mateo's and Rufus's story. Like how we touch each other's lives in little ways that don't seem important to us, but mean everything to someone else. Idk I'm kinda rambling but the book was excellent and gut wrenchinglly sad but also beautiful at the same time. Don't read it if you're not in a good state of mind and keep a box of tissues handy
