This book was simply not fun to read. The formatting and ru-on sentences made it such a chore to pick up.

It felt like the author was trying too hard, and yet, the magic(?) was nonsensical.

After reading the Atlas Six and now loving it I wanted to give Olivie Blake another try but unfortunately her writing style is just not for me.

This felt so much like the Netflix adaptation of The Fall of the House of Usher but less horror more magical realism, and because of that I definitely wish it were adapted and I could watch a limited series of it. I cannot do 500 pages/19 hours of an audiobook of it

I love reading Olivie Blake’s writing but this book was….hard to get through!! If I remind myself that this was a slice of life family-drama, I like it more. But goddamn it took me a long time to finish.

I truly hated reading Eilidh’s chapters.  Her feelings felt convoluted via Blake’s pen instead of beautifully descriptive. I liked Lou the best, and Arthur. The narrative structure was brilliant (ugh). Her quippy dialogue is always my favorite to read so I’ll never stop!!

Overall, not my favorite from this author. Which I hate to say.
