One of the best ways to judge a series is if you can easily slip into a later book, not having read the first. This series is not one of those series, unfortunately.

The Lost Saint is a little heavy-handed with names (Grace Divine? Daniel? Gabriel? Jude? Any of those names ring bells? If not, check out your nearest Bible) and with mythology. Apparently werewolves can be just that or they can be Urbat (aka "Hounds of Heaven" - see the Biblical overtones?). There are alphas and betas and true alphas and challenges, not to mention Galel and Akhs and other creatures. Confused yet? While things do get explained in the book, it does take a while, particularly with the double crossings and conflicts going on.

As for plot, it's clear that once again we have a series that is being stretched thin, with padding and filler rather than tight editing. Egmont is usually a better publisher than this, so I can only imagine that they're trying to keep up with the bigger houses. In short, Grace is trying to find her "lost saint" brother Jude, who is now a werewolf (and who has infected her, just after she cures Daniel from the same curse) and trying to keep her family together - Mom's falling apart with Jude gone, and Dad's away often trying to find him. Daniel is trying to train Grace to channel her "talents" or "abilities" (guess someone's watching "Smallville" for dialog ideas), yet also telling her to hold back. There's Talbot, a mysterious werewolf fighter (or is he?) and Gabriel (ditto), and much mayhem and slaying (the dusting part is pure Buffy).

If this is the type of series you like, there's no reason not to read it, but it is derivative and (as I said earlier) padded.

ARC provided by publisher.

i am on the fence about this book at times I just wanted to slap Grace and at others I was surprised by her choices. I want to give her 3.5 stars for this book but I guess I'll round up

I will not be waiting a year before reading the next and final Dark Divine novel, The Savage Grace. Despain has got me hook, line, and sinker with this series. Fantastic characters, action, and roller coaster emotions all packaged with great writing makes The Lost Saint a wonderful followup. If you haven't given The Dark Divine a chance yet, I highly suggest you do.

So good! I liked this one even better than the first. Now I'm dying to know what happens since it left off in a cliff hanger!

The story begins with Daniel training Grace to fight when she gets a call from Daniel's phone. The caller states that they're coming and you're all in danger. She recognizes the voice as Jude's. Later there is an attack on Day's Market and the place is robbed and trashed. Whoever did it was super fast cause it was all done within a five minute time period. While Grace was leaving the market, she noticed a card stuck to the bottom of her shoe from The Depot and slipped it in her pocket thinking it could be a clue to who did it. Grace would soon find out how important that card really is.

Daniel starts behaving strange and Grace starts out on her own to find Jude. He's part of a new pack family now and Grace is determined to find him and bring him back even without Daniel's help. He's pulling away, keeping secrets and even being dishonest towards Grace. She soon meets Talbot, who is like her and decides to train her and help her develop her new powers. She now has sharper and clearer vision, along with her being strong and faster with an instinct to run.

This is an awesome sequel that has twists and turns all throughout the story. The plot is well thought out and the ending will leaving you aching for the next installment. We get introduced to exciting new characters that lead Grace into thrills and dangers and you never know what's gonna happen next or who can be trusted. After reading this, I felt like a roller coaster of emotions from the excitement of the adventures they just went through to the shock and sorrow I felt at the end. I hope I don't have to wait too long till I can find out what happens next!! Pick this up and read it and I bet you'll be filled with the emotions I am too.

I gave this second installment 3 1/2 stars. It took me a little bit to get into, but once I did, it was hard to put down. There is definitely a lot of action in this book. Looking forward to the last book.

I am waffling between 3.5 and 4 stars. While I enjoyed most of TLS better than TDD, I found the ending unsatisfying and rushed.

I really like this series. It's different enough to be interesting, explores the mythology and builds on its characters. There's a third book and I'm going to read it. I recommend this series to anyone wanting a slightly different paranormal YA.

Grace is one of my all-time favorite heroines and she does justice to all us girls out there!
