I wanted to like this book. I wanted to enjoy this book and for a moment for about 45-60 percentage wise I was like “aye it’s finally getting good! It’s finally worth my time!” Then BAM plot twist! And it made the book burn more. I could get behind the first main plot with Midas’s deal, and I was really thinking “okay maybe this is when she realizes he is a POS and we meet her next true love interest”. Nope. Then at the end, I start to think “well maybe this will be the turn around for book two like ACOTAR”, but we get the Midas POV in the end. And GROSS. I hate this man. I think he is disgusting. “My precious” is the most disgraceful thing to call a woman. I was REALLY hoping for some good smut. That’s what I heard about this book - that there were some really good steamy scenes. We got TWO explicit scenes. One of which was boring as hell with very little detail and lasted about as long as your typical man does. The other was a
rape
scene. A very very detailed scene that had NO right being that detailed or upsetting.
Am I gonna read the rest of the series? Yes. Why? Because I want to see Auren get some kinda redemption. I want Rissa to get some kind of revenge. I want to know what happens to Digby. And I desperately want Midas to get his  d!(k cut off

I thought this was an interesting fantasy read. Often the main characters in these books tend to grow up in harsh situations that make them the main character and whilst Auren had a rough upbringing for the last 10 years of her life she has been shield away from reality in her golden cage. This makes her both out of touch from the world outside the castle and socially awkward, which was refreshing to see.
Watching the world through her eyes you get to see as she slowly starts to be reintroduced to the world and reality outside the castle.
Whilst there isn't any major character development I think the work has been laid for her to explore the world more and grow as a character in the others books. I cannot wait to see where she finds herself in the next book and what she will learn.

This was a “reread,” I didn’t eat it up quite as fast as the first time, but I was still as eager to continue every time. Even as one of the weakest in the series it’s still so captivating to me.

Plot development too slow. Main character has some interesting developments at the end. The main "love interest" is a douche and that's putting it lightly. Lots of vulgarity. Book made me uncomfortable. Overall, not my cup of tea. Only read because it was part of a reading challenge.

I definitely plan to continue this series. I am intrigued by the premise and hopefully that the future books in the series will be fit my reading style a bit better. Of course the genre that it is, there are plenty of red flags a waving everywhere, but we seemed to creep through the plot. It is definitely a character focused book, but I would have loved a few more answers and something a but stronger to pull me through the slower cadence of the novel.

I read this book in 8 hours over two days and I really enjoyed it! I thought it would be trashy but it was actually super gripping. The Stockholm syndrome love story was interesting and the plot was slowly revealed along with a bit of interesting backstory. Recommend in you like fantasy romance!
