I don’t understand why people say this is the worst book in the series and one should power through the first one and the series gets better with each book? I freaking loved it. Sure, it’s very slow paced and the author almost describes everything and every day (that‘s why I give -0.5 points for this one), but I think the characters and the world is great! Yes, Auren can definitely be a little bit annoying and blindsided because of her love to King Midas, but I already see potential there. I think she’s going to have a great character development throughout this series. There were tense, dark, emotional and funny scenes and I liked that it was way more violent than a YA fantasy would have been written. Definitely check trigger warnings, the author also got it mentioned on the first page of her book. The ending had me screaming and left me confused. Auren has the same power than Midas? She can turn things to gold? Like, excuse me, please elaborate, but we are left waiting for an explanation. Like not even in her own thoughts you know. And then Commander Rip says he knows what she is? Uhm, she Fae too, or what? But she has no pointed ears, but ribbons coming out of her back, so obviously she’s different and not totally human, but until then and that moment, I thought that was just something normal again in there world.
As I said. I’m confused. And not sure if I like all of her gold just yet. I mean, I have seen people all painted in gold and it’s not a sight I really enjoyed, so I guess will need time to get into that.
