Enjoyable, writing is not fantastic but it’s a entertaining story and the drama is stepping up a bit. Def reading the next one but very heavy emotional read but loved the lil catch at the end. Main character is like able and i’m enjoying following her.

I really enjoyed this book. A fast read. A well written, funny heroine. A fantastic plot twist. Suspense, spice, and a budding enemies to lovers set-up. So good. Can’t wait to read the next 3.

TW***There were so many times where I wanted to DNF this book to the point that I could only read it in small bursts. I do find that I have a hard time DNFing books and because I wanted it to count towards books read I kept persisting. I am going to jump around a bit because I have a lot of thoughts about this book. This is a damaging book. For no reason except brutality for the reason of brutality was there a rape scene. I am purposely not putting a spoiler warning here because people need to know if they plan to read it.

I understand Auren reveals her powers in this but it still could have happened with an implied fear of rape instead of actual brutality. </Spoiler>
The book opens with an orgy essentially. The King has his "saddles" (not sure why they needed to be called that and frankly every time they were called that I rolled my eyes) which are his harem. Which I can understand because harems have been in literature FOREVER but calling them saddles wasn't clever. It felt dumb.
The magic system seemed really cool because it was a Midas retelling and the story overall was interesting but the journey there really ruined it. There were moments that I actually enjoyed but they were few and far between and literally consisted of them journeying through the snow while you saw Auren as a regular human instead of the Kings favored.
She is a living gold touched person. I HATED THE AMOUNT OF TIME THEY REFERRED TO HER GILDED

( can't even type it out normally because my mom is my Goodreads friend and it's stupid and crass. ) There were so many cringy moments and a lot of moments that felt completely unnecessary. I hate having such mixed thoughts on this because the story had so much potential but it got ruined by trying to put too much shock value in. There are literally two likeable people in this whole book and they are such minor characters that it's sad and

one of them dies after getting to know him for like 20 pages.
