Fletcher "Grey" Pryde has been called back to his mother's home after her third husband, and a third Duke, has died. Grey experienced hardship as a child and was separated from his family. Although reluctant to return home now, he knows he must see to his mother's well-being. Things are not going so well for Grey at the moment. Although a very rich duke, he has established quite a reputation, albeit undeserved. Meanwhile his aunt is pressuring him to marry his cousin, and that is something neither of them wants.

Beatrice Wolfe is the cousin of Grey's half-brother, and Grey's mother has offered to help her by giving her a Season in London. With the family mourning now, the debut must be delayed. However, Grey's mother wants him to school Beatrice in certain matters, like proper dancing. Meanwhile, Grey's brother Sheridan is quite certain that his father, and also his uncle, previously, were murdered. The man he thinks guilty is none other than Beatrice's brother Joshua. Sheridan wants Grey to investigate the cause of both deaths.

Grey elects to spend time with the delectable Beatrice, leaving Sheridan to sort the more serious matters himself. However, Grey has very good reason for not wanting to become romantically involved. Beatrice herself gave up on romance, but she is very concerned for her and her brother's future so she has agreed to the tutelage offered by her aunt. It only takes a few glances at Grety for Beatrice to realize she is smitten.

What a delightful romance by Sabrina Jeffries! I loved all of the conflict involved with this story while the foundation for a heartwarming romance was being built. This made this become a multi-layered story that flowed smoothly through the pages. While this is my first read by Sabrina Jeffries it certainly will not be my last. I am eager to continue on with this series. The next book is Duke Dynasty and is slated for release in February, 2020.

A solid book felt a little rushed towards the end

Sabrina Jeffries latest new series The Duke Dynasty series begins with Project Duchess released on June 25th. I was lucky to receive an eARC from NetGalley just prior to its release and really enjoyed the book.

The Duke Dynasty series will focus on a family of grown children of an often widowed mother. She married well three times, and provided heirs to each Duke she married. Project Duchess follows the story of Fletcher “Grey” Pryde the fifth Duke of Greycourt and Beatrice Wolfe, a cousin through marriage that he meets at the funeral of his stepfather.

Grey had a dark childhood and trusts no one with much of anything really, let alone his heart, but he is also immediately drawn to Beatrice because she is different from the ladies that were brought up politely in the Ton. Beatrice raises and trains dogs, walks through the woods in sturdy boots, and most importantly, doesn’t let Grey win his way in an argument easily.

Though in mourning Grey helps Beatrice and his sister prepare for their coming out parties and along the way falls for Beatrice. Though their feelings are mutual, neither fully trusts each other for most of the novel, refusing to share their past traumas with each other.

I found this a delightful read with the right amount of danger and romance. I can’t wait for the next installment of the series to come out!

Happy reading 🙂

This is exactly what I expect from a historical romance. There is a meeting, instant attraction and instant dislike. A problem arises, forcing the two primary characters and love interests to work together, then that attraction cannot be denied. But can it be attraction alone? Is love possible?

What's great about this book is the original spin Sabrina Jeffries puts on how the couple falls in love. While it is common to have a confident woman who is able to see the good in a man, and a business focused man who doesn't want to fall in love. Here, once love is ignited, Beatrice's secrets create an almost insurmountable obstacle.

I especially loved the murder mystery aspect to this series. Without giving too many details, let's just say that the plot is very intriguing once the characters are firmly introduced. I really enjoyed reading Beatrice and Grey find each other and love. The dialogue was written very well, with what I can only assumed to be practiced ease. Sabrina Jeffries is very good at using her characters and their words to move the story forward.

I'm so glad this is a new series and can't wait for the next installment. This is a suspenseful but enjoyable romance that will have your heart racing, in more ways than one.

*Special thanks to Sabrina Jeffries, Netgalley, and HF book tours for a copy of Project Duchess in exchange for an honest review.

Sabrina Jeffries is a fairly new read to me and she is a great writer. Project Duchess by Sabrina Jeffries is the first book in what looks to be a enticing new series The Duke Dynasty. What makes Project Duchess unique is there is a mystery going on throughout the book that you me is an added gem! Looks like the mystery will continue throughout the series.

If you love a romance with a large family and witty banter… this is for you. Fletcher Greycourt’s mother has been married Three times to three Dukes! The sudden death of his stepfather brings him to the estate of his youngest brother, Sheridan. He is met with his grieving family, an estate in debt and a mystery. He also meets Beatrice Wolfe the cousin of his youngest brothers(Sheridan and Heywood). Beatrice has been helping the family since the estate has been her home almost all her life. Grey’s mother, Lydia, has also taken Beatrice under her wing (as a project) to give her a debut with her own daughter Gwen. Grey and Beatrice seem to bring out fire and wit and humor in each other. Our main characters are also privately dealing with past childhood traumas as well. They seem like the best matches to break down all the walls they’ve built up over the years.

The secondary character connections were all very clear and I’m looking forward to learning more of everyone’s stories. Because the family is large and extend there are lots of private dynamics that I like seeing.

The steam and conflict are great. Can’t wait for the next!

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

Very typical historical romance.

Maybe more of a 3.5, because I didn't like the loose ending. However, I did enjoy the characters and their sparring and rounded up.

2.5 ⭐️
Imma be honest,
I pretty much devoured this since I listened it to audiobook with 1.35 speed (thank god).
The plot was full of tropes, had predictable characters, and didn't explain most of mysteries in the end.
At some point, I started asking myself: Is there a woman that isn't fiery and decisive and expressive with their feeling and thoughts, and is there a man that isn't dark and secretive and seductive and grumpy?
Also, I'm not even sure that this book passes the Bechdel test. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I physically cringed countless times (genuinely excited for that.. or else I wouldn't keep reading it)
Smut is not smutting, unfortunately

An entertaining start to a new series. This book is a historical romance with a murder mystery hidden inside. It's hard to get into the twists and turns that I liked best about this story without giving things away, but it definitely sets the stage for some very interesting events in the next books. Bea and Grey's courtship and engagement against these intrigues and dangers becomes something that you want to have happen but at times aren't sure that their budding romance can survive surrounded by so much uncertainty. I'm definitely following this series, if only to discover what follows from the revelations at the end of this book!
