This book was absolutely amazing and deserves 500 stars in my book.
From the very beginning of the book you know that the characters are bound to split up, but something inside of you is secretly rooting for them, hoping and praying that maybe she'll change her mind or forgive him, not yet knowing why they broke up. That, of course, is revealed towards the end of the novel and leaves your mouth hanging open at the sudden abruptness of it.
The pages that follow the reason why they broke up are heartwrenching, and beautifully crafted, for-going proper grammar, to show exactly how she felt in that moment. Writing long sentences, similar to a teenage-human-girl's thought processes after a break-up.
In the book I was hit by how candidly the author revealed Min and Ed's flaws, because in most books they're covered up, for the reader to discover. When you first meet Ed he seems like the perfect guy, some flaws, but they can be overlooked because of better ones. As the story goes on you see how much of a bastard he is, but still root for him, mirroring how Min must have felt.
I give Daniel Handler HUGE cudoos, because he was able to get inside a fiery teenage girl's mind and create a love story destined for disaster. I really loved all of the references to old movies, and how Min related them to her own relationship, ending almost every chapter with "and that's why we broke up", sometimes having to re-read to get the full gist.

GODS, the way they combined art with story its so freacking great. With each picture I wanted to know the story behind it. Super fast reading and enjoyable too.

I loved the idea, but the execution fell a little flat. Min is hard to follow a lot in the book & it's supposed to be for middle age or something? I think they'd get distracted in the distractions of following Min's ranting. Chapter 35 was awesome!

I'm afraid to say that Why We Broke Up was one of the most boring books that I've ever read. I had such high expectations and it all came crashing to the ground. I thought that since Daniel Handler had such great success with his previous books, this would be an amazing book too. Sadly, it was the opposite. I hated the fact that all of the sentences were repeated about a million times. I hated the fact that Ed was homophobic and kept on saying the word gay like it was some kind of insult. Lastly, I hated the fact that the ending was so predictable and so generic. I mean, I was like, that's it? I had so many urges to stop reading halfway but I thought let's give it a few more pages, maybe it'll get good at some point. I was wrong.

I have realized that books written like this are just not my cup of tea

I think I was hoping for another Basic Eight from the Daniel Handler YA book. This one is a good, but not disturbing and dark like Basic Eight. Or even Unfortunate Events.

Vo vsetkej tej spleti vselijakych vymyslanim tto bolo velmi osviezujuce citanie... Jedno z tohtorocnych prekvapeni:D

This book was probably more relatable to me than it should've been. A must read for anyone whose ever experienced teenage heartbreak, or heartbreak of any kind.

great read!

I felt like I was back in high school again. Daniel Handler realistically wrote like a semi-dramatic, totally hormonal teenaged girl and it is amazing. Spoiler: There's a breakup.
