It's no news that I love every single book I read from the author, I've praised his talent to the skies time and time again.

Killing Commendatore really did not disappoint. The novel revolves around a relatively young portrait-painter who found himself living secluded in a mountain home owned by famous painter Tomohiko Amada, after separating from his wife. When he finds a hidden portait from Amada in the attic, he launches a circle of unprecedented and mysterios events, in typical Murakami style.

I found many similarities in this book to The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, for example, which I have read more recently. Both main characters find themselves confined in a deep, closed place, facing the wonders and terrors of darkness. There are common themes in the author's novels which arouse very interesting philosophical questions about life and reality as we know it.

This fantastical journey have the power to captivate and entrance the reader with its many oddities and marvels. The characters are at once interesting and deeply coated with mystery. Murakami's poetic and simple writing give solace to the heart. This and many other of his works feel homely and sheltering.

Great job once again Murakami!
adventurous mysterious slow-paced

Diving into a massive Murakami novel feels kind of like swimming in the ocean: no matter how competent and skilled you are as a swimmer, it's definitely bigger and badder than you. This story of a mysterious painting, several mysterious people, and a sentient idea is truly deep and powerful. There are a few odd moments in the story, as is usually the case with Murakami, but nothing so strange that it can't be overlooked. And certainly nothing that detracts from the story itself.
