3.5 Really good at points, top tier Murakami at moments, but kinda drags, strangely repetitive as if recapping its own story (not sure if written that way or a translation thing), and the ending is a little meh, but enjoyable overall.

I don’t know if I’ve just outgrown Murakami, who was once without a doubt my favourite author, but the stilted prose, lacklustre characters and constant, deeply creepy physical descriptions of underage girls made this one of the worst things I’ve read in a long time.

Murakami can be a creepy old dude at times, and in this book he writes about the breast of a 13 year old girl in lengths. But only Murakami is Murakami, the rest of the story is solid. Yeah, the main character is a bit bland as usual, but the supporting cast is strong. However, the supernatural elements of the novel was a bit on the weak side IMO. Therefore I cannot really give this 5 stars. It may even be on the edge to three stars.

To jest książka tak bardzo o niczym, że bardziej się chyba nie da. Na 700 stron, 600 to głównie powtórzenia około 20 tych samych zdań, tylko w różnych konwencjach gramatycznych.

Pretty classic Murakami, except that it's extremely long.

This didn't feel like Murakami to me. It felt like a weak imitation. For the first quarter, I thought maybe the translation was this issue, but when I found that the translator is the same as nearly every other book, it was no longer a potential culprit.

Killing Commendatore had all of the elements I like in Murakami's works. Unfortunately they were presented in equal measure of being either watered down or needlessly condensed. It lacked the finesse that I have come to expect. The plot could have been interesting if it had been handled as deftly as I expected. Very disappointing.

I feel like someone pretended to be Murakami and wrote this book using the worst interpretations of Murakami symbols and terrible translations of said symbols. I gave up after the narrator described a woman he had a sexual encounter with as having something along the lines of an excellent vagina. Are you kidding?
