I won this in a giveaway. I have not read all previous 10 books in the series, but I have read 4. This one is right in line with the others. Descriptive scenes; characters of all ages and walks of life; mystery and a somewhat suspenseful climax. I did notice no reference was made to Detective Stanhope's girth. That contrasts with the previous books. Makes for good bedtime reading.

Another classic Vera. With a little touch of politics thrown in at the end. Good stuff, pet.

Well, I'm always excited when a new Vera book comes out, but this one really let me down. The writing wasn't up to par: overuse of exclamation marks in general, and especially in weird ways; overuse of "negging" and "neg;" and repetitive passages at least a couple of times. It's almost like this book received no editing at all, which is a real disappointment since I love the series so much. Less fat shaming overall, which was an improvement.

On the bright side, we get introduced to a new DS and tiny hints of change for Joe are sprinkled about, though if he'll ever act on them is another story, pun intended.

If you haven't tried the TV series yet, do it - it's a rare case of the adaptation being better than the books, IMHO.
