5 stars! Loved this book. Vera remains one of my favorite characters and this was another great mystery. I love Rosie great addition to the team. The way Vera fights for victims and the valuable hooks me. The theme of of 3 wives was wonderful, Vera. Rosie and Chloe. Chloe & her friends. I love that Vera inspired Chloe to help others. That the loss of Holly had such a lasting impression on Vera. That she's trying to change for better with the team. That she's got a friend, workmates and a community. This book was a joy to read.

I’m not sure what I think about this one. I don’t mind mysteries that are hard to deduce but this seemed a little unearned. The new recurring character is interesting and as always Ann Cleeves does a good job with the details of various personalities. Her Vera novels set the bar really high so in comparison this one didn’t feel quite complete. Still great and I enjoyed reading it.
