I am now convinced I will never be on any literature award committee, as I cannot fathom why this won anything...i was bored to pieces and would love to find a kid that was entertained by this book.

Very quick audiobook. Checking off a book that happened in the past for newbery bingo. It is a collection of poems about kids in the Middle Ages. The Vocab was tough for Reid and we pretty much had to stop after each one to talk about it. He got most of it, but some concepts (like saint and religious persecution) were foreign to him. Overall it was enjoyable but probably will not stick with me.

I found it interesting how the author describes life in the medieval times from an evolutionary perspective, where everyone does what they do so they can survive. The book was fun to read, but also rather heavy. The author didn't shy away from the dark side of medieval times. I did feel it was rather overpowering, since there really weren't any bright spots.

Not my usual thing, but enjoyable and quick. The footnotes were helpful. I would absolutely see this as a performance!
