I listened to the Audible version of "Cut Short", which has 7 stories, instead of 3. Loved these – they were a lot of fun and perfectly bite-sized to listen to during my walks.

"Dead Man's Fingers" was my favourite of the bunch, though I liked them all! And I adored the banter between Poe and Tilly! Lots of fun and I recommend it if you like this series.

Three short stories from the 'Washington Poe' series:

1. The Killing Field - two bodies are uncovered in a cattle mass burial pit from the time of the UK foot & mouth crisis of 2001.

2. Why Don't Sheep Shrink? - Bradshaw & Poe solve a cold case whilst self-isolating for Covid. Doesn't sound very funny but this one had a scene which had me laughing to myself out loud. I also worked out how the murder was committed.

3. Dead Man's Fingers - wild flowers provide a clue in the case of two missing teenagers from over 20 years ago.

Very short stories but cleverly & humorously written. Bradshaw & Poe are such a fantastic team & Bradshaw's worldly innocence yet vast intellect makes for some great moments between them.

4.5 stars: I thoroughly enjoyed these three charming short stories. Of course, it helps if one admires the character of Poe (I do—he is a quintessentially charming black sheep type), and adores the character of Tilly (oh my, yes I am completely smitten). It’s a quick and fun read.

After finishing Fearless, I wanted to dive into more of M.W. Craven’s work, so I bought ‘Cut Short’, three stories in the Washington Poe series.

I LOVED these stories! Poe and his sidekick, Bradshaw, are eccentric, intelligent and hilarious characters who solve crimes. In this novella they are locked down at the beginning of the pandemic with nothing much to do in Cumbria, yet they manage to solve three past crimes in just 80 pages.

This can definitely be read as a stand-alone book. Now I’m going to have to read every book in the series though, as it is ADDICTIVE!

Kort luisterboek.

Ik vond dit boek echt niet bijzonder. Was niet spannend en niet leuk verteld.

Er werd veel uitgelegd maar er kwam niet echt een verhaal in. Jammer! Ik had er veel meer van verwacht… Tegenvaller.
