Cut Short

Poe, Tilly and Lockdown .... need I say more? There are some genuinely loud out loud moments in this trio of short stories and the book is well worth a read. The book contains barely 60 pages and you might wonder if it is worth bothering with such a small collection. Well, I read the book during my lunchbreak and I absolutely recommend it. The stories can be situated at any point in the Poe/Tilly universe and also act as a decent introduction for newcomers. Read, laugh and enjoy.

'Cut Short' features three new short stories by M.W. Creaven, featuring two of his greatest creations Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw. There are three stories in total and all are set in Cumbria.

1) In The Killing Field, Poe and Tilly are forced to take holiday leave by DI Flynn and during breakfast, are struggling to decide how to spend their leave. While pondering this problem, a police detective arrives and asks for their help at a nearby airfield. Be warned, this airfield was called 'the killing field' during the 2001 foot and mouth crisis and the story is not be to read while eating your own breakfast!

2) In Why Don’t Sheep Shrink?, an unnamed pandemic forces Poe and Tilly to self-isolate together. Needless to say, this situation leads to a lot of funnu conversation as our dynamic duo argue over pasttimes, language, diet........
Eventually Poe turns to an old, unsolved, cold case. A case that he has been unable to solve. Then Tilly decides to lend a hand......

3) In the final tale, 'Dead Man’s Fingers', our heroes have finally escaped their isolation and are enjoying being back outdoors. Until Edgar accidentally leads them to reopen a twenty year old mystery.

BAM, loved this one! Yea Poe and Tilley are back and kicking arse. They are looking at cases that haven't been solved. A really quick and easy read, and there is good chemistry between them, you know like being best friends. READ IT.
