This was fun and, yes, I’m saying that even though it was a dark book where torture and mind invasion and alien rape were all present. I didn’t mind that one iota because it was an entertaining story with an intriguing concept and I just enjoyed the ride.
Brady was a great MC and I loved being in his head from the start. When Cam joined said head things only got more interesting and also hot. I’m so curious about the change of alien heart Kai-Ren had in the end and guess the reasons for that will be part of book 2 or 3.
I would have loved to give it 5 stars but at times I was annoyed about Brady’s teenage self that led to bouts drama queen behaviour I found exhausting. But maybe I’m just too old to connect with rollercoaster feelings all the time.
All in all I had a really good time reading this book.

Wow! I did not expect to have such an emotional response to Dark Space. Lisa Henry is an amazing writer. She drew me in and made me care about Cam and Brady. I thought this was going to be a typical sci-fi read. I felt like a voyeur at times as I watched their relationship evolve from medical necessity, to biologically induced physical attraction, to love. When it seemed there would be no love conquers all ending, I felt incredibly sad and like I wanted to cry. I am being deliberately vague about the details of this story because the mystery and suspense elevated my enjoyment, and I would like future readers to have the same experience. You will not regret reading this book; however, you may be sorry when realize you've flipped the final page!
Read this in one sitting. A brilliant sci-fi that left us with a HFN and quite a few questions, Will there be a sequel to answer these questions only time will tell.
Questions:
1. Why was Cam set free as well, I thought he sacrificed himself so Brady
was free.
2. Did Wade and co get what they deserved ie sent to the faceless in exchange for Cam and Brady.
3. It seems as though Cam and Brady are only on leave so does Cam take Lucy back to his parents to be cared for or does brad continue with his PTSD to stay on sick leave.

It's rare that an author will tackle bigotry and homophobia in such a strong manor that it doesn't take away from your experience. I've read so many books where these topics where incorporated into the plot/subplots that it can often times become uncomfortable. Yes, many of the characters express these viewpoints, but they're also critical to the story itself and Cameron's openness gives Brady the courage to evolve in his own believes and embrace a future he never dared to wish for. Despite being part of a series the ending is fairly tidy and can be read as a standalone.

Only one bed. Aliens. Gays in space. Need I say more?
Honestly, this book was NOWHERE near what I thought it was going to be like from the blurb. Much more sciencey/almost fantasy like with the aliens 👽. But the writing was good, so I stuck through.
It was also a lot more emotional, dark, and filled with sexual violence than I was expecting.
Good writing, 🌶 scenes, dark themes, and a decent plot (though the end was rushed and kind of randomly wrapped up). Will definitely be reading the next in the series.
Definitely make sure to read TW first!
Additional TW:
Homophobic slurs, Internalized homophobia, Lack of privacy/control due to forced telepathy, non-con/dub-con

First, the giant **trigger warning** I didn't see anywhere else:
The first 75% of this was magical, steamy perfection verging on 5 stars. This happened to be when I put the book down to go do real world stuff, and said real world stuff put me in a stupid bad mood, so I was thrilled to pick this awesome book back up to fix that god-awful mood I was in. Unfortunately this was also the point in the book when things went to shit for the MCs -- there was grief, anxiety, fear, horror, heartbreak and rage.
And then, that trigger-y stuff that had been confined to past memories/nightmares -- already hovering just on the edge of being a problem for me -- came roaring into the present and is the only reason this is three stars instead of four. I truly have no idea if I would have knocked it down a star if RL hadn't gotten in the way... But probably, because Kai-Ren made my skin crawl to a sickening degree and that final at the end was too much for me.
This particular trigger is a non-starter for me, so I really wish I had known about it, but I loved the rest of it so much I picked up the next book hoping for some quality Cam/Brady HEA time before shit hits the fan again... and that is not how that book goes either!! Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit. In retrospect it's kinda funny how quickly and surely this whole experience turned on me... but it wasn't funny last night :(
