C’était une bonne lecture, mais sans plus. Peut-être parce que cela est le troisième livre de l’auteur que je lis en peu de temps et qu’il a fait appel à des procédés déjà utilisés dans ses précédents romans.

Book is about nine people receive a list with all their names on it. Seven below 50 and two in retirement. One being a FBI agent takes the lead in figuring out the connection. Turns out the hotel manager, the killer along with the parents of all the list names covered up the murder of the killer’s younger sister in what was supposed to be a friendly challenge to be a part of their childhood pirate club. Premise was good but the writing didn’t hook me.

Classic murder mystery that revolves around 9 characters and their POV. It was a little difficult to follow which character was narrating, but not difficult enough that I struggled to follow along.

This was a major miss for me. It was really boring and the culmination of the mystery was a letdown.
I can tell Swanson is a huge mystery fan, particularly of Agatha Christie and the book paid homage to “And then there was none”. It left me feeling the same way I left feeling eight perfect murders, just unsatisfied. I like Agatha Christie, as much as the next person but I need more.

It's trying to be And Then There Were None, pretty explicitly, and I think it does an okay job of that. But I didn't really like it. The twist makes sense (although the epilogue didn't and that annoyed me). It was hard to care about any of the characters because they didn't have a ton of depth, and it felt like a lot of the book was just not having the information to know what was going on.

I didn’t really like how Peter wrote about and treated his characters. There was a real lack of care especially for the women and Sam. They felt tokenized and objectified. I appreciate this is meant to show the lives of those lost but you finish it knowing they did nothing wrong other than Jay of course. So it makes no sense for them to be portrayed the way they were.

The reveal was also underwhelming to me. Kinda just kept reading and was like yeah okay. I wanted it to shock me. Of course it was going to be one of the nine but I wanted to it be more exciting.

Probably won’t ready Swanson’s work again.
