Maybe it's just me but the writing is just so.... Obnoxious? Like the way things are phrased, long paragraphs of just rambling almost, the word choise, the first person pov but in past tense, it all adds up to make this a very tedious read at times.
I've also at this point taken a gander at the other reviews and honestly the fact that, based on what other people are saying, the book doesn't stand entirely on its own without the game is what made me drop it.
I haven't played the game yet, although I've played other titles in the series, and I expected something more like Assassin's Creed: Renaissance where while there were definitely parts of the novel that made NO sense going into it without a familiarity with the story, and it dragged on at times, it still told a cohesive narrative that you could follow without having played any of the games. Granted I read that one translated from English to Greek so it's possible I would've had the same issues with the writing in the original and it just didn't translate.

Really good for the most part, I enjoyed learning more about Edward's character and his background. I felt, however, that several action scenes were lacking in description. While I can understand this being an issue with writing a video game book, it just did not read smoothly in those areas. Otherwise great book!

I played the video game on my switch and I wasn’t quite ready yet to let it go so I decided to read the book by Oliver Bowden. I loved the book but I prefered the video game which was more detailed.

Black Flag is my favorite Assassin's Creed game but it's been a while since I've played it. Being able to delve back into this character and this world of pirates that I love so much was amazing from start to finish.

Kon niet echt relaten met de hoofdpersoon en het verhaal voelde nogal plat aan
