An entertaining diversion with likeable characters, but also utterly forgettable, this is just a nice escapist read.

I had been forewarned that the mysteries in this series were secondary and that the charm lay in character and setting. That didn't worry me, as I often enjoy when those elements are integral to story. However, this just didn't capture my imagination as it could have, and I felt oddly let down.
I will note that I liked some of the phrasing. The references to a person "becoming late" when they died and the descriptive "traditionally built" women are two examples that tickled my ear.

Week 7 Book 11
Miracle at Speedy Motors by Alexander McCall Smith
Rating : 5/5
Whenever I am out of something good to read or facing a reader's block, I turn to my go-to book series... The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. And the books always succeed in cheering me up, as did this one.
As always, the book, the characters, and the events prompted a volley of thoughts and questions inside me...
Do you believe in miracles, and would you give anything to make one happen, for someone you love?
If one day you found out that you had a family member you never knew existed, what would be your reaction?
If someone is jealous of you, someone who has always acted superior but has perhaps suffered from terrible inferiority complex, could you respond with love?
Is lying okay in relationships? Not at all or occasional harmless white lies are okay?
Is it possible to see something good in someone you really despise? And accept and acknowledge it?
As I read through the book which revolved around Precious Ramotswe and her world, I imagined the glorious sunrises and sunsets around the Kalahari desert, the lazy afternoons and bustling marketplaces, the Botswana flora and fauna, and the social fabric of the Motswana. Reading a book from the series is like a hot cup of bush tea for the soul - always invigorating and heart warming. Must read for all McCall Smith and Mma Ramotswe lovers.

These are such fun books. And I love the narrator of the audiobooks.
#9 in the Ladies Detective Agency series - and loved it along with all the others.
Just another cozy, sweet Mma Rotwatsee (I'm sure I hacked the spelling) story. Nothing fancy, just the right book for when you need to regroup with simple people.
Wish the series would come back.
